To encourage users to put a server into maintenance mode before starting work, you might like to add a shortcut to the server desktop which will take them to the server page in Squared Up, so they can quickly and easily click the 'Maintenance Mode' button:

1. Firstly, create a URL using the server name in the following format, and test that it works:

http://<SquaredUp-servername>/SquaredUp/object/byname?name=<squp server>.<domain>.<tld>

For example:

http://Squpserver/SquaredUp/object/byname?name=server1.mydomain.local

2. Create a shortcut on the server desktop using thisĀ URL and test it.

3. You can then go on to use a GPO to deliver the shortcuts for you in the following format:

http://<SquaredUp-servername>/SquaredUp/object/byname?name=%ComputerName%

For example seeĀ http://pc-addicts.com/server-2012-deploy-desktop-shortcuts-using-group-policy/
